Flexible working through cloud computing is 'great initiative'
UK workers spend 21.8 million hours travelling to and from work every day, according to the latest research from the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
The research, which was published to coincide with the start of Work Wise UK's Commute Smart week, which is slated for November 9th to 13th, also discovered that £266 million worth of working time is spent through travelling to and from work each day - underlining the importance of cloud computing, it is asserted.
Rob Lovell, the chief executive officer of ThinkGrid, said: "With technology such as cloud computing being increasingly adopted by businesses, people are able to work from almost anywhere, essentially removing the barriers of the traditional office by allowing sharing and collaboration of data and applications."
He added that cloud computing technology can remove the need for commutes to and from work, thus drastically reducing costs associated with this transit.
Mr Lovell also emphasised that the ability to securely access documents and collaborate on them in real-time over remote access only adds to the credibility of the concept for big and small businesses in IT alike.
According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).
