Fujitsu becomes first UK IT company faced by strike action
A union has served a notice of a three one-day strikes on IT services company Fujitsu to take place on November 12th, 13th and 16th.
Unite national officer for IT and communications Peter Skyte said that the group wrote to the Fujitsu UK chief executive on Monday after an industrial action ballot, with aims of resolving issues relating to jobs, pay and pensions, though no formal response has been received from the company.
It has become so bad for the many employee representatives on the company's consultative forum that several have announced they have tendered their resignations over the way they have been treated.
Mr Skyte continued: "We recognise the effect any industrial action will have on key private and public sector customers and clients of Fujitsu, but the responsibility for this rests squarely with the company for failing to talk to us or address the issues."
Around 12,000 people are employed by Fujitsu in plants in places including Stevenage, Manchester, Belfast, Wakefield, Cardiff and Newcastle.
A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent).
