Business Link: Postal strike will affect small businesses in IT

16th October 2009

Practical advice on contingency planning has been offered to small businesses in IT around the UK in light of the impending postal strike actioned by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) last week.

In order to deal with the issue, the government's Business Link service has established a dedicated webpage to push forward ideas on what companies in the technology sector can do to oppose the threat of slow or no postal services.

The organisation emphasised the need for small businesses in IT to remain in constant contact with their consumers to keep them informed about any delays in deliveries, while Post Offices should be tasked with outgoing mail as opposed to post boxes as there is a greater likelihood of it getting picked up.

Furthermore, alternative businesses are available to organisations hoping to remain fully operational during the strikes, which are scheduled to take place next week.

Yesterday, the CWU proposed a peace plan to the Royal Mail, and is awaiting the results. If the company rejects it, the postal strike will go ahead as of Thursday October 22nd.

According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).ADNFCR-1071-ID-19413691-ADNFCR
