Intel: Traditional PCs still used by many

25th September 2009

Despite the mass migration of users to the likes of laptops and netbooks, people are still using desktop PCs regularly, according to a leading technology firm.

In an exclusive interview with v3.co.uk, vice-president of Intel's Digital Enterprise Group Rick Echeviarra said that the traditional "beige box" approach to PCs has been long-outdated, though there will always be demand for the style in newer form factors.

Commenting on the trend, Mr Eschviarra explained: "What's happening is that the beige machines are being replaced by mobiles but desktops will continue to have a role.

"There is still strong demand for PCs in certain areas, healthcare for example. Plenty of businesses want a PC that isn't mobile."

He explained that gaming communities are also still huge fans of desktop PCs given their scope for upgrading and the ease in gaining peak performance at a better price.

Earlier this week, Intel stated that it believes TVs will become much more integrated with the internet and make viewers much more connected with what is in front of them.

According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).ADNFCR-1071-ID-19379812-ADNFCR
