Broadband speeds 'advertised confusingly'
Small businesses in IT may still be confused with the speeds they are receiving in terms of their broadband deals, according to an expert.
Thomas Newton, the lead content writer for UK Web Media, explained that it can be confusing when internet service providers advertise their offerings to small businesses in IT as unlimited because they can be anything but, with it usually only referring to off-peak usage.
He continued: "Many services often advertised as providing unlimited downloads will say somewhere whether a fair usage policy is in place or not. But such policies vary from provider to provider, which makes things incredibly confusing [for] customers trying to decide which provider to go for."
However, things are getting better, with Mr Newton noting that O2 Broadband in particular is advertising maximum speeds as lower than their theoretical high points, instead highlighting what average customers can expect.
His comments follow recent research from uSwitch.com which discovered that over 6.7 million broadband users could be exceeding limits set on so-called unlimited packages.
According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).
