Attitudes to IT services 'are changing'

6th August 2009

Younger people are changing the way they use the internet, it is claimed.

They are becoming more passive towards social networking and moving on to different areas of technology, suggests Ben Camm-Jones, news editor of Web User Magazine.

Younger sections of society tend to set the lead in web content and trends, with those over 30 playing catch-up afterwards, he states.

"There's always going to be the next big thing, and it's just the case that younger people are moving on now," Mr Camm-Jones added.

Having had their fun with the likes of Facebook, they want to move on and do different things with the internet, he continued.

Online video is going to be the next area to take off, Mr Camm-Jones predicts.

Figures from Ofcom show that the percentage of 15 to 24-year-olds who have a profile on a social networking site has dropped for the first time.

At the start of 2008, 55 per cent of this age group were signed up, but 12 months later this figure had dropped to 50 per cent.

A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent).ADNFCR-1071-ID-19301031-ADNFCR
