Cyber security issues cause govt to take action

26th June 2009

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced his new strategy to deal with the increasing threat of cyber terrorism.

As part of the National Security Strategy, the government is to teach cyber security skills to adept individuals while working with high-tech British companies to ensure the act continues to stimulate the economy.

It will also work with other countries to make sure international law in relation to online crime is consistent.

A new ethics advisory group will also be established to ensure government activity regarding cyber security still guarantees personal freedoms to use cyber space by personal users.

Gordon Brown explained that the strategy shows how a new global age needs new worldwide rules to counteract it.

He continued: "That is why we have set out detailed and ambitious plans to work internationally to stop climate change making vulnerable regions more fragile still, to make sure we secure the world's energy supplies safely into the long term, and to work to reduce conflict and poverty across the world."

The government published its Digital Britain report recently, with BT promising its customers to fall in line with the study's demands and raise the speed of customers' internet access free of charge.
