Mobiles are the 'future of information'
Mobile solutions are now expected to deliver everything a user of a portable device, such as a phone, needs, it is believed.
Kristof Beets, the business development manager at Imagination Technologies, made his comments to attendees of the GaME09 conference discussing media and gaming trends, held at the Department of Computing of Imperial College London this month.
He said that individuals and small businesses in IT alike are looking to the mobile to deliver TV, internet, music and other important services on a day-to-day basis, with many increasingly relying on such services to take "up the road", never mind planes and trains.
Mr Beets added: "Ideally you want all your information, any type of media, at any time, in your pocket with good battery power and that's the ultimate kind of experience we are trying to enable."
While worldwide mobile phone sales dropped by 8.6 per cent on a like-for-like basis between quarter one of 2008 and 2009, smartphone proliferation jumped by 12.7 per cent over the same period.
According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).
