4oD returns to the web
Following the success of BBC's iPlayer and a strong launch for ITV's online TV services, Channel 4 has announced that it is allowing people to watch programmes properly on its website.
Before now, users were required to download the 4 on Demand (4oD) application to their computers to stream the programmer's shows through, though this was known to cause a number of problems for certain users.
However, the organisation is now following in the footsteps of the BBC and hosting content through its website, which has improved its IT support of Mac and Linux users.
In a statement to users relayed today, Channel 4 said: "Of course you're welcome to use your 4oD application until then if you prefer, although you may find that you are no longer able to download or rent some programmes or films."
Flagship programmes currently associated with Channel 4 include Hollyoaks, Grand Designs and the ubiquitous Big Brother.
In a recent survey of SMEs for Connect, the two most important benefits of outsourcing were guaranteed response times and allowing in-house IT staff to concentrate on more strategic issues.
