Pirate Bay founders file appeals

12th May 2009

The founders of BitTorrent website the Pirate Bay are calling on Swedish police to conduct a new investigation as part of an appeal, a recent blog posting has revealed.

Peter Sunde, a co-founder of the website who writes under the alias BrokeP, said that himself and his three companions, who were sentenced to a year behind bars in April, were entitled to demand this.

He explained that much of his decision has hinged on how the four of them were not given a fair trial and that the judge was biased.

Mr Sunde concluded: "We want everything to be in the eye of the public so that we can get help to see that everything is correct.

"We need to trust the system but the system needs to be transparent enough so we can trust it."

All four men - Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm and Carl Lundstrom - were sentenced to one year in jail each, with the judge setting damages at 30 million Swedish krona (£2.4 million).

More than half of small businesses (53 per cent) believe that the most important benefit of outsourcing is guaranteed response times for IT support. London-based Connect conducted the research in 2007.
