Online fraud is a fact of life and highlights the importance of disaster recovery and other security measures for small businesses in IT, is has been stated.

A spokesman for CyberSource spoke of how airlines in particular highlight the losses which can be made through the theft of details or fraudulent purchases, stating that it is a "predictable" problem which companies ought to address from an early stage.

He explained: "It is worth noting that the cost of fraud to airlines is much more than simply the direct revenue losses incurred when fraudulent bookings are made.

"Airlines should look to consider the total cost of fraud by taking an end-to-end view."

Without this, all businesses in all sectors may need to employ manual review teams to ensure that all transactions are kosher instead of leaving it to chance.
