Cybersecurity 'must be addressed by world's governments'

8th May 2009

In order to remove the threat of any problems in delivering goods and services, governments around the globe must address cybersecurity as soon as possible, a new report has stressed.

According to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, central administrations which want to nurture sustained economic growth must deal with the issue urgently, outlining the points in its Cybersecurity: Everybody's Imperative: Protecting our Economies, Governments and Citizens report.

Anything is threatened, it was said, given that things such as military consoles and small businesses in IT are now relying on the internet.

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu global public sector industry leader Greg Pellegrino said that taking the wrong angle with this could lead to wrongful actions which could limit the freedom of individuals living in these societies.

However, he added: "The stakes of not addressing cybersecurity now are high and the risks of not doing it right are even higher."

Finjan's Malicious Code Research Centre recently discovered there to be a network of 1.9 million malware-infected computers, including many owned by national governments.

A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent).ADNFCR-1071-ID-19160805-ADNFCR
