Economic downturn has 'not pushed green IT off the agenda'
Green IT systems are not forgotten or ignored due to the credit crunch, according to a major company in the sector.
Tracey Rawling Church, the director of brand and reputation at Kyocera Mita, told delegates at the Green IT 2009 Conference & Exhibition that people regularly ask her about whether or not the financial downturn has a major effect on the psyche of the sector's major players.
She continued: "From the conversations I have with businesses and public sector organisations, I would say that the answer is a resounding 'no', but the focus has definitely changed."
Ms Church explained that many of them are quite aware that, if anything, companies stand to save money should they adopt a more sustainable approach as they would be cutting down on energy bills and similar costs.
Defra's Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) scheme comes into force in April 2010 and is designed to generate a shift in awareness in larger businesses to change their IT support infrastructure to become greener.
According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).
