IE8 is 'good but not great'

A technology commentator has spoken of the trials and tribulations of Microsoft's newest web browser Internet Explorer, stating that while it may be good, it's not particularly groundbreaking.

Anick Jesdanun of the NewsFactor Network stated that he had initially held back on taking the upgrade from the company's website, noting that he was not able to give up on Firefox or Chrome despite the new additions to the system.

However, he stated that certain additions to the service, such as accelerators, are solid creations for the new browser, allowing developers to make add-ons to enhance certain Web 2.0 applications such as Facebook and Google - without them having to consult Microsoft first.

Despite the effort, IE8 is not one to beat the likes of Firefox, Flock and Chrome, with Mr Jesdanun commenting on the constantly evolving nature of the browsers, which are already combining the common interests of the modern internet user.

Internet Explorer was launched in 1995 with the Windows 95 operating system, removing the manual installation problems required by shareware browsers of the period.

According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).
