VeriSign: Domain name registry continues to rise

20th February 2009

The industry involving domain names is continuing to go against the grain of the economy by showing massive growth in 2008, it has been stated.

VeriSign released the latest figures regarding domain registration to find that there has been a 16 per cent growth compared to the amount of accounts started in 2007, detailing its results in the 2008 Domain Name Industry Brief.

European leader of domain name services at VeriSign Tobias Wann told vnunet.com that top-level domains (TLDs) are particularly expanding in regard to the international market.

He continued: "Demand has now been created for fully international TLDs, to the left and right of the dot, which will result in a lot of growth opportunities for everyone involved."

The report detailed that .com, .cn of China, .de of Germany and .net are the top four choices for new registrations.

VeriSign specialises in internet infrastructure services for networked companies and is behind billions of daily instances of safe connections worldwide.

In a recent survey of SMEs for Connect, the two most important benefits of outsourcing were guaranteed response times and allowing in-house IT staff to concentrate on more strategic issues.
