Royal website gets makeover

12th February 2009

The website of the British monarchy has been given a makeover to provide fans of the Head of State and her family with updates, it has been revealed.

Royal.gov.uk was originally launched in 1997 and recorded over 100 million hits in the first 12 months of operation - at a time when the internet itself was still in its infancy.

The new layout now tracks the Queen and gives updates on her most prized possessions - the corgis.

It currently recieves 250,000 unique visitations a week and reflects the Queen's well-reported desire to keep in touch with her subjects through the ever-popular modes of technology which are becoming increasingly adopted by the nation.

Documents that have not been made available to the public before now will be showcased on the website, including some of Queen Victoria's journal entries.

The official YouTube channel of the British monarchy was established in October 2007 and is also regularly updated with clips of speeches, visits and other landmark moments in the history of the Royals.
