Twitter suggests corporate charging system
The amount of business users harnessing the growing potential of Twitter has sparked an idea for co-founder of the company, Biz Stone.
Speaking to Marketing magazine, Mr Stone stated that revenue-generating features targeted at corporate users could help the service grow as well as provide a viable hybrid customer service tool for those holding a Twitter account.
He said: "We are noticing more companies using Twitter and individuals following them. We can identify ways to make this experience even more valuable and charge for commercial accounts."
Despite this idea, he was not forthcoming with the amount the company was thinking of charging such users.
Mr Stone also emphasised that individuals using the service for leisure purposes would not be made to pay for their membership.
Twitter was established in 2006 and allows users to post so-called micro blogs of up to 140 characters in length, with users able to receive updates through their mobile and update their profile from a remote location.
According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).
