Engaging fully with digital services needs to involve the proper implementation of security and privacy settings, believes one expert.

Speaking at the Westminster eForum & Westminster Media Forum keynote seminar: Digital Britain, member for Scotland if the Communications Consumer Panel Fiona Ballantyne claims that trust in companies is paramount to the success of digital industries.

"This is one area that is absolutely fundamental to encourage people to take up digital communications. People want to be able to protect themselves," the expert continues.

Furthermore, Ms Ballantyne says high-profile data loss cases are not helping the public image of digital industries which is, again, something to be addressed in the future.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform said in its recent action plan that it was to work on next generation networks and creating universal access to broadband.

It also hopes to create a digital future for radio and a new deal for digital content rights.

In a recent survey of SMEs for Connect, the two most important benefits of outsourcing were guaranteed response times and allowing in-house IT staff to concentrate on more strategic issues.
