International organisations have to deal with problems caused by data loss protection legislation, it is believed.

Nigel Hawthorn, writing for CRN comma says that many firms are realising that data loss prevention is a necessity, especially as legal implications can arise as a result.

"Organisations trading on a global scale will also need the best policies for worldwide customers and suppliers – so bringing UK legislation in line with the best in the world makes sense," the Mr Hawthorn claims.

Companies can monitor activity on their network by integrating data leak protection as well as stop people from illegally moving data.

The 2008 UK Study on Email Marketing Practices & Privacy, commissioned by StrongMail, reveals that the loss or theft of private and confidential data is pervasive among UK firms.

It shows that around 66 per cent of marketing professionals have experienced a data breach involving the loss or theft of consumer data over the past two years.
