Online job searches 'boosted by general CV sites'

People looking to get the most out of their CV should look into putting it online in order to appeal to the widest audience possible, according to one IT expert.

Making sure that a CV is posted on all websites across the internet, particularly in the current financial climate, is the best way to ensure that all bases are covered and that a competitive edge remains, according to managing director of Onrec.com David Hurst.

Keeping ahead of the game in the recruitment process and knowing all options is also a great thing to have, as "there will be many people who are perhaps looking for a job for the first time in quite a while", the expert continued.

He added that looking towards niche job boards - such as those for IT support - may also be beneficial alongside the regular large websites.

According to the Monster Employment Index, job availability reached a 19-month low in November, also signalling the largest monthly fall since January.

In a recent survey of SMEs for Connect, the two most important benefits of outsourcing were guaranteed response times and allowing in-house IT staff to concentrate on more strategic issues.
