Dedicated servers recommended to IT-based business

28th November 2008

Online businesses may want to turn to a dedicated server if it is to handle traffic increases after an initial investment in shared hosting, it has been claimed.

Writing for online resource Internet Marketing for Beginners, one blogger has agreed with the notion that shared web hosting can help firms cut costs in the workplace.

Despite this, the writer urged webmasters of internet sites which are "really taking off" to look into the need for dedicated servers.

"Usually, these specialised servers are housed in a secure data centre, which also provides extra services, such as environmental control, power backup systems, security and the needed connection to the internet," they continued.

The bonus of this investment is that businesses avoid having to invest their own software and in-house server, it was added.

According to Akash Zamanb, an increase in web traffic may be a great situation for a business, yet that without a dedicated server the rewards would not be fully reaped.

In a recent survey of SMEs for Connect, the two most important benefits of outsourcing were guaranteed response times and allowing in-house IT staff to concentrate on more strategic issues.
