Age frontier with IT 'will shift forwards'

27th November 2008

The age gap between older and younger people in regards to the adoption of IT is widening due to the addition of new features to already complicated technology, a computing specialist has said.

Research director for telematics and navigation at ABI Research Dominique Bonte said that despite this, the gap will improve over time due to the fact that many providers are still making things easier to use despite the increasing number of functions many feature.

He continued: "The adoption of technology always happens first with the younger groups and then spreads to all the groups. They need more time to become familiar as the education process seems to be much longer."

Recently, it was found that console technology aimed at the younger market was leading them to take up hobbies which the games represented.

Speaking on behalf of Youth Music, artist Richard Stilgoe said the likes of Rock Band and Guitar Hero were causing many to pick up real instruments such as drums and guitars.

In a recent survey of SMEs for Connect, the two most important benefits of outsourcing were guaranteed response times and allowing in-house IT staff to concentrate on more strategic issues.
