Business IT 'could become greener' due to recession fears
IT support executives around the UK may be investing in a greener IT department over the next few months in response to the growing threats from the current economic climate.
The National Computing Centre (NCC) highlighted, however, that this trend would likely be unintentional as it is cost-cutting that drives their initiatives and not a social conscience.
Group marketing manager at the NCC Michael Dean said companies would be more intensively reviewing the use of hardware and software within their business to truly assess the amount it was used, cutting down on any unnecessary cost.
He continued: "It is highly likely that many organisations will be able to identify underutilised assets and reduce their IT overheads. Whilst this isn't a green motive, it will have a positive effect."
According to the Kyocera Environmental Office Research report from 2008, 57 per cent of responding businesses have an environmental policy, with 68 per cent having several eco-conscious measures within the office.
According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).
