As Bluetooth grows 'security concerns rise'

The growth in the use of Bluetooth is highlighting the importance of security issues related to the technology, according to a leading blog.

It is claimed on the Online IT Support website that there are basic levels of security available when using the technology, such as the pairing process which sees the users of two devices using profiles to recognise each other.

However, businesses have been warned that "experienced hackers" have discovered how to get around such systems, which means the issue is back on the agenda for the companies behind Bluetooth.

The website stated: "If you've been concerned about Bluetooth security in the past, rest assured that newer devices will offer bigger and better security.

"Preventing hackers from getting in is something every owner is concerned about - and the manufacturers are very aware."

Rebecca Harold, a leading IT security expert, recently told West Michigan Business Review that it's "very easy" for people with compatible Bluetooth devices to look at the contents of a person's laptop.

A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent).
