Two IT experts are hosting a webinar tomorrow to discuss disaster recovery and IT support systems.

Jeff Weil, vice-president of services and support at Empirix, and Donna Fluss, founder and president of DMG Consulting, will present the event.

It is titled If Disaster Strikes Tomorrow, Is Your Contact Centre Ready to Respond? And will present findings of a study by the firms.

The results show that only 36.7 per cent of companies are confident they could survive a disaster without seriously impacting their customers.

Furthermore, one in five does not have a disaster recovery or business continuity plan and nearly two-thirds do not test their core servicing infrastructure.

The webinar will cover how to cope with disasters, best practices to minimise the risk of service disruption, mitigating the impact of disasters on customers and how to be prepared for any disaster eventuality.

Last week firms were warned that a "security black hole" can be created through an employee's decision to use a virtual desktop.

Richard Jacobs of Sophos said virtualisation allows people to use unauthorised applications such as file-sharing tools.

A recent survey for Connect found that one in ten companies has lost important data as a result of a backup failure. The company has now developed a unique online backup service - http://www.connect.co.uk/services/online_backup – for SMEs to ensure they can survive any disaster.
