IT managers 'pained by new technology'
Technology's evolution is proving to be an annoyance for IT managers, it has been stated.
Research carried out by Quest Software, which surveyed 200 British-based IT managers in the enterprise market, discovered that instant messaging, MP3 players and other such gadgets were causing stress to be heaped onto their IT departments.
Chief technology officer at Quest Software Joe Baguley said that computer users in workplaces were increasingly using the likes of conferencing technologies and removable storage devices that they personally owned to store data, which was causing a difficulty for managers to keep track of in order to secure data.
Around half of IT staff interviewed also did not have a formal system in place, it was noted.
He added rep: "Given these trends, it's hardly surprising that enterprise IT teams are feeling pressure to manage the security threats posed by these so-called consumer technologies entering the workplace."
Last month, it was noted by ITPro that managers in the sector were expected to become a jack-of-all-trades, with security and cost management now part of their working life.
