IT managerial roles 'evolving'

19th September 2008

A recent report by a technology website has revealed the evolving and ever-growing role of IT managers in offices across the country.

IT Pro outlined how IT managers were expected to wear an increasing number of hats around the workplace, with the job changing to fit with developments in the IT support industry.

Alongside keeping an eye on costs, dealing with data overloads and adjusting to new methods of using, storing and implementing technology, Wieland Alge of security company Phion said that security issues were also evolving.

He said: "The people responsible for security have a hard enough time justifying their existing budgets without negotiating additional funds.

"This is due to the fact that security has vanished from the agenda of top-level IT management."

Earlier this month, IT Pro also highlighted the importance for IT support and management staff to operate a consistent network as the future uptake of such services as video and similar media will demand strength from a business' system.

More than half of small businesses (53%) believe that the most important benefit of outsourcing is guaranteed response times for IT support, London based Connect conducted the research in 2007.
