'Gurus' employed for Microsoft's Vista
Microsoft has employed a number of staff to promote the company's operating system, Vista, in an attempt to improve the image of the product across the United States, it has emerged.
Vnunet.com, a technology news resource, stated that the hiring process was taken as part of Microsoft's $300 million (£167 million) campaign which aims to equip US stores such as Best Buy with people willing to answer queries about Vista as well as many demonstrational stands providing IT support.
Senior vice-president of online services and Windows Business Group Bill Veghte said: "We must deliver a world-class shopping experience that aligns with the brand promise and our online presence."
The news provider added that 155 new employees would be especially hired for the task in a marketing move which was noted to echo a tactic unveiled by Apple, Microsoft's main rival, in the form of its Genius Bars.
Advertising campaigns continue on television in America for Microsoft, with the second ad featuring comedian Jerry Seinfeld and Microsoft pioneer Bill Gates appearing on screens towards the end of last week, vnunet.com also reported.
A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent)
