The "world's most advanced" tracking technology has been created by Microsoft and is ready for release, the company has announced.

It stated that optical technology has been harnessed with the laser tracking precision, to create mouse peripherals that will work on more surfaces than ever before, allowing people to take it anywhere they need one.

According to Microsoft, the BlueTrack technology allows the mice to work on such things as a granite kitchen worktop to a carpet in a living room.

Platforms engineering manager at Microsoft and co-inventor of BlueTrack technology, Mark LaPue, said people need a mouse that was able to work anywhere due to the mobility of computing.

He said: "Research shows that people aren’t sitting at a desk all day, but they’ve gone mobile. In fact, 72 per cent of PCs sold are notebook PCs and consumers need a mouse that can go with them anywhere."

ITProPortal noted that the provision of blue LEDs was already quite popular online, with many people changing existing red LEDs to the colour due to its increased ability to track motion.
