Mozilla Corporation's chief executive John Lilly has said he sees the new Chrome browser from Google as a worthy competitor to his own organisation's Firefox, it has emerged.

Speaking in his online blog, Mr Lilly said that with Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera and other browsers available alongside Chrome and Firefox, his company was always competing but that seeing Google's views on application importance through its new browser would give Mozilla even more development ideas.

He also stated that the newest competitor was a galvanising factor for the online development community, with breakthroughs regularly occurring in the browser market, which are in turn responsible for changes in the use and abilities of the internet.

"So it means that more than ever, we need to build software that people care about and love. Firefox is good now, and will keep on getting better," he concluded.

Google cited this revolutionary aspect as the driving factor behind its technology, saying that it believed it could "add value for users".

A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent)
