Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) software - which recently got a second beta update - has irreversible installation for some users of Windows XP, the company's blog revealed.

The operating system producer noted that those people who had downloaded Service Pack 3 (SP3) onto XP would not be able to revert back to previous versions of the internet browser.

Microsoft recommended to those wanting to avoid the issue to uninstall the first beta version of IE8 manually before upgrading to the newest release.

Technology news resource vnunet.com said that the problem comes up after the SP3 update is installed on a system running the first beta release of IE8.

"Upon attempting to install the recently-released Beta 2 version of the browser, the user will be left unable to revert either IE 8 or Windows XP to any previous release," it noted.

CRN reported yesterday that the release by Mozilla of the Ubiquity technology could have "soundly trumped" the new navigation features of IE8.

A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent)
