An online computer resource has warned users of a new piece of malware that is posing as the latest update for Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 (IE7).

Vnunet.com detailed how the emailed spam messages masquerade as advertisements from Microsoft Feature Offers, with the "latest version" of IE7 being offered to users.

When the user goes to download the installer from the fake browser page set up by the computer attackers, a malicious executable file called "update.exe" installs and downloads further malware onto the user's system.

The news adds to a similar situation from last week, when FlashPlayer creators Adobe offered the technology community IT support by reporting security issues over a similar malware download disguised as one of its products.

Yesterday it was announced that the social networking site Facebook had been hit with a number of malware attacks, although security chief Max Kelly asserted that only 0.002 per cent of people had been affected.

More than half of small businesses (53%) believe that the most important benefit of outsourcing is guaranteed response times for IT support, London based Connect conducted the research in 2007.
