WWF 'chooses eco-friendly web hoster'
The World Wildlife Fund in the UK (WWF-UK) is seeking to deploy environmentally-friendly web hosting technology for its public-facing website.
It has chosen the Utility Computing Service (UCS) from the IT services provider Carrenza, which uses a virtualised platform, ITPro reports.
UCS - which is also being used for the organisation's web database and developer platforms - has reduced WWF-UK's web hosting energy consumption by 20 per cent.
Adrian Cockle, WWF-UK's interactive production manager, says that securing a completely reliable service was vital because the content-rich website is of extreme importance, the news provider says.
He adds: "We chose to work with Carrenza because their UCS will allow us to reduce the carbon footprint of our operations, but also because we trust them to keep us online and deliver an excellent level of performance."
A report just released by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Institute of Business Ethics has suggested that the issue of ethics is of growing importance to the business world.
It revealed 84 per cent of finance professionals believe business has a moral obligation to help address global issues.
More than half of small businesses (53%) believe that the most important benefit of outsourcing is guaranteed response times for IT support, London based Connect conducted the research in 2007.
