iPhone 'could face business sector issues'

19th June 2008

Apple may find it difficult to break into certain markets with its new iPhone, according to new research.

Some 105 chief information officers were surveyed by US investment house Sanford Bernstein.

Of those questioned, two stated that they planned to use Apple's new handset in the next year.

The Financial Times reports that the company has projected sales of 10 million for the new iPhone 3G by the end of the year.

"Our CIO survey suggests that corporate iPhone use will be driven by employees purchasing their own iPhones, rather than company-wide deployments," Toni Sacconaghi, from Bernstein Research told the newspaper.

Apple has invested in a software update which makes it compatible with Microsoft Exchange, a business email system, the Financial Times reports .

The move is aimed to increase its appeal to corporate IT departments.

According to a Guardian report, Apple's competitors in the "Smart Phone" market include Samsung, Blackberry and HTC.
