Web 2.0 technology 'could have recruitment role'

The recruitment process could be developed by integrating the technology of social networking sites such as Facebook and Bebo, it has been suggested.

Technology used for Web 2.0comma and the global and interactive nature of social networking could become a commonly used method by employers.

A survey conducted by the Chartered Institute of Personal Development (CIPD) has shown that 56 per cent of its members said that social network website had become a useful tool for engaging with new recruits.

"Through the richness of multimedia and connectivity, Web 2.0 technology provides an opportunity to bring the employer brand to life and create experiences online that allow potential employees to experience what it is like to work within the organisation," said Deborah Fernon from the CIPD.

Ms Fernon added that at present 80 per cent of companies do not use web 2.0 technology to recruit staff.

The CIPD recently reported that the prime minister should do more to extend the right to request flexible working, which it believes can boost workplace productivity and performance.
