Customers could be paying too much for their broadband service, according to an expert.

Neil Armstrong, products and marketing director at PlusNet, has revealed that consumers face difficulty when it comes to determining how much bandwidth they use which in turn could mean they are paying the wrong amount for their broadband.

The company has launched a bandwidth calculator in a bid to combat this problem and help consumers work out which broadband package is correct for their usage.

He said: "About one third of customers on our service use more than 1GB and end up 'topping up' while those on more expensive services might be paying more than they need to for excess usage they don't require."

Mr Armstrong added that there are "plenty customers out there who could be paying too much for their broadband".

Last month, a study by broadband-expert.co.uk revealed that on average customers receive just 48 per cent of the advertised download speed.

New research from Connect found that, on average, it takes businesses that use backup tapes take 11.6 hours to retrieve and restore files. Connect is now recommending that SMEs switch to www.totalrecall.co.uk
