Potential security threats of Web 2.0 flagged up at forum
At the recent Secure Enterprise 2.0 Forum in New York, the vice-president of WorkLight, warned of IT security threats that Web 2.0 technology may have.
David Lavenda claimed that 2008 will be the year when Web 2.0 technology becomes mainstream. He also warned that businesses need to make sure employees' access to internet services is secure.
According to a report on onrec.com, Web 2.0 services offer unfettered internet access which can put companies at risk of data theft, information leakage and liability for information misuse.
Talking about WorkLight's server based software, Lavenda: "Our enterprise Web 2.0 services give companies access to a secure and highly personalised set of facilities, but without the security risks firms would experience by accessing blogs, wikis and social networking sites directly."
The forum aims to promote awareness, industry standards, best practices and interoperability relating to the introduction of consumer technology into the workplace.
A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent)
