Scottish Water to outsource IT

29th April 2008

Scottish Water is looking to outsource IT contracts in a bid to save £8 million in operating costs in the next eight years.

The company will outsource three contracts to Tata Consultancy Services for applications management and Fujitsu for service desk, desktop and infrastructure.

BT has received a contract for mobile data, voice and networks.

Of the move, general manager for IT David Brown commented that it:"[presents the] opportunity to exploit the extensive development capabilities of some of the most innovative companies in the business."

The outsourcing is part of a general six year project that aims to make Scottish Water more efficient and hit service targets.

A previous IT transformation project was taken on in 2006 and completed successfully by the utility provider.

Tata Consultancy Services also have a contract with British Airways and have recently opened a new UK IT innovation lab in Peterborough.
