According to a report by IT services and anti-virus providers Sophos, 15,000 webpages are infected every day.
This is more than three times as many as in 2007 when infected webpages were discovered only every 14 seconds.
Speaking to Itopro.co.uk, senior security consultant at Sophos Carole Theriault said: "The number of people who go to internet cafes to do their internet banking, buy tickets to the cinema and put in sensitive data is growing."
She added: "That is a serious worry considering the amount of websites that are actually infected."
There was also a warning to Mac users as it is expected more threats will appear as Apple's market share grows.
Ms Theriault said: "It doesn't matter whether you have an Apache or Unix system web server. Don't assume that you will be protected even though you're not running Windows."
