The British Computer Society (BCS) has stated that more industries than ever before are opening up to IT issues.
According to the independent IT body, financial, media and health sectors are all becoming more "sensitive" to IT matters, meaning more people than ever before are bringing computing expertise to their firm.
And with a "broader mix" of staff now receiving IT training and taking the ECDL (European Computer Driver License) user-level qualification, the BCS said the benefits of expanding IT services would be far-reaching.
BCS government relations manager David Evans credited the expansion of the UK's financial sectors to technological advances that have made trading easier and more transparent, and he predicted similar growth across the wider economy.
"The thriving media sector in Britain is extremely IT intensive, as are manufacturing services," Mr Evans noted. "The result is that people who work in these sectors are having to become IT experts and IT experts in these fields are having to develop the deepest understanding of the sector they are working in."
A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent).
