Report highlights IT skills gap

New research from Samsung suggests that businesses in the UK are struggling in terms of employees' IT capabilities.

The survey, undertaken together with YouGov and questioning 1,000 employees, found that the average UK employee thinks their own IT skills are "average at best". As well as this, five per cent believe them to be poor.

However, one in three Britons feel that they can't function at work without technology, highlighting the need for adequate IT support.

Graham Paterson of Samsung IT said: " In today's knowledge economy, most of us now use more technology than ever before in our jobs.

"However, our survey findings indicate that many employees believe their IT skills need to be further bolstered by both training and access to new technologies in order to help us to do our jobs.

"Furthermore, it seems that one fifth of employees do not currently feel that they are given access to the technology needed for them to complete their work. This would be a prime area for businesses to lose money through either loss of productivity and poor processes."

According to a recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent).
