OCC solutions becoming more important

Outbound Content Compliance (OCC) solutions are becoming increasingly popular as the focus for IT security shifts away from stopping breaches from outside to staunching the threat of data leakage inside organisations.

According to TheInfoPro (TIP), an American IT research network, OCC has become more and more important, with a large number of companies planning to install the technology within six months.

In fact, one in ten Fortune 1000 companies intend to do this, with a further 12 per cent planning on doing so by the third quarter of next year. Major providers include Vontu, Vericept, Websense, Cisco, Google, BorderWare and Microsoft.

"We have seen a recent shift in priorities where ensuring the security of an organization's critical data is top priority," said TIP's Bill Trussell.

"Up until recently, the focus was on preventing breaches from the outside, but now there has been a growing concern to build up defenses from internal threats of data leakage.

"As a result, there has been a significant increase in market demand to address infrastructure security from inside threats through technologies such as OCC."

As the importance of IT within companies is consolidated, and security becomes ever more important, adequate IT support is vital.

According to recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent)
