Study: Improved IT support leads to greater productivity
Organisations in the US that have increased their levels of IT support to end users have enjoyed a higher level of productivity among employees, a study from IDG Research shows.
According to Daily Channel News, less than half of respondents to the survey (46 per cent) had increased IT support to end users over the last five years, but those that had done so had boosted productivity.
Organisations are also more likely to outsource employee IT support services as the support of devices becomes more complex, the study revealed.
"Companies are considering this usually to increase their ability to respond, or because of the complexity of the situations," said Joe Hogan of Unisys, which helped to carry out the poll.
"If technology doesn't work properly or quickly enough for employees, you tend to see a real drop in their morale."
He added that often everyday salespeople need a greater level of IT support than the executive vice president of a firm, and that technology in general is vital for any number of business processes.
A recent Connect survey found that the two major concerns about outsourcing services like IT support were 'loss of control' (56 per cent) and 'budget over-runs' (43 per cent)
