Anti-virus software market set for more strong growth
The global market for anti-virus software will more than double over the next six years as cyber-crime continues to grow as a threat to business security, according to the latest industry estimates.
A study released by analyst Frost & Sullivan shows that the market for anti-virus software grew by 17.1 per cent in 2006, reaching a total value of £2.46 billion by the end of the year, reports computerweekly.com.
With increased media reports of ID thefts and stolen passwords the report also states that growing awareness of the importance of proper anti-virus software will see the market hit £5.1 billion by 2013. The increased targeting of corporate websites was also seen as vital in a demand for further software improvements and innovations.
"Cyber crime is now amongst the most important revenue sectors for global organised crime," Frost & Sullivan analyst Katie Gotzen told the site.
"Because of this, the potential risks associated with malware have risen dramatically," she added.
According to recent survey by Connect, the two biggest IT headaches for businesses were 'everyday hassles with IT' (37 per cent) and 'security concerns' (32 per cent)
