Mobile IT devices 'improve worker flexibility'

26th June 2007

New mobile IT technologies mean that workers in the UK increasingly want to work in places other than the traditional office.

Computerworld UK reports that a recent study carried out by Microsoft Windows Mobile found that nine out of ten workers would like to use new technology to let them work outside.

Nearly three-quarters (73 per cent) of employees also revealed that the degree of flexibility a new job would offer them would be a deciding factor when considering positions.

Over half (52 per cent) also said that more flexible work would help them feel less stressed by their job.

Tom Stewart, consultant with ergonomic specialists System Concepts, explained to the site that mobile working practices benefited both staff and employers.

"Giving people more choice is empowering, raises morale and improves the relationships between employees and their bosses - it's a win-win," he added.

Recently, a study by BT Business found that faster broadband connections were allowing the owners of small firms in the UK to achieve a better work - life balance.
