Survey reveals hated internet vocabulary

22nd June 2007

A new survey has discovered which internet-inspired words most anger office workers and the owners of businesses.

Research company YouGov carried out the investigation for the Lulu Blooker Prize and 'folksonomy' - a term used to described a user-generated web classification system - was voted the most hated word.

The word of a collection of blogs, 'Blogsphere' came second, while 'blog' and 'netiquette' and 'blook' (a book based on a blog) completed the top five.

Other internet-created words that angered IT workers and other office professionals included 'cookie' and 'wiki', 'webinar' and 'vlog'.

"The Web continues to churn out endless new words, amounting collectively almost to a new language. Web-lish is the new English," commented the Lulu Blooker's Canadian founder Bob Young.

Many of these words will also receive future acceptance, as the Collins English Dictionary has indicated that some will appear in forthcoming editions.
