IT technology helps detect CV lies
While many UK workers admit to lying during their job application process, new internet technology is making it easier for employee to spot these fibs, a report suggests.
Data gathered by Monster shows that 67 per cent of UK employees admit to lying while trying to get a new job.
Popular things for prospective employees to be economical with the truth about include the reason for leaving a previous job (39 per cent), current salary levels (18 per cent) and what qualifications they have (ten per cent).
However, Monster also reported that the internet is making it easier for the bosses of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to check out prospective employees before offering jobs.
Rob Brouwer, the chief executive of Monster UK and Ireland, explained that social network sites like Facebook can be used to check employee details and activities.
"The fact that you can now email referees, check details in search engines, view company profiles and genuine education details makes everything more transparent," Mr Brouwer added.
"Prospective employers are now making detailed reference checks and recognise the potential damage of hiring someone without the skills or experience they claim to have.
"Jobseekers should understand that they can damage their long term future with one lie."
