People 'use wireless internet connects to plan business trips'

4th June 2007

People - including workers at the UK's small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) - are increasingly using mobile internet devices and wireless connections to access information on the move.

A report from m-spatial showed that more and more people use wireless connections to check things like traffic conditions and weather reports to avoid being late for meetings and other business commitments.

The report claims that the recent increase in the number of WiFi hotspots in the UK has helped businesses embrace the technology and facilitated the increase in its popularity.

In the report, it was found that there has been a 100 per cent increase in the number of business people using mobile internet devices to check speed cameras.

"This quarter's Index is particularly significant," explained Andy Walker, chief executive of m-spatial.

"Alongside highlighting the breadth of local content that users are demanding on the move, we are now seeing a growing trend of repeat usage of mobile local search services.

"The figures confirm that consumers are now realising the value of search, not only when in an unfamiliar area, but on a regular basis near home, when making familiar journeys."
