Staff 'don't see spam as a problem'

25th May 2007

Workers are becoming increasingly savvy about how they deal with email spam, according to a new report.

The report, published by Pew Internet, found that workers were experiencing more spam now than they did in the past.

In fact, 29 per cent of people with a work email account said they had experienced an increase in spamming recently - compared to 21 per cent two years ago and 18 per cent three years ago.

However, far fewer workers (18 per cent) said that they thought this activity was a major problem. In June 2003, a quarter of workers (25 per cent) felt spam was a serious issue.

"The volume of most offensive of spam - porn - has decreased, and users are becoming more sophisticated about handling spam," the report added.

A recent report from Ironport Systems predicted that spam was set to make a major comeback in 2007. According to the report, the Radicati group said: "Fighting spam will continue to be a top priority in 2007."
